Quick housing market update for Kennebunk, Arundel, Wells, and Kennebunkport homeowners and buyers:
Mortgage applications dropped 8.9% last week as the average 30-year mortgage rate rose to about 6.10%.
Purchase activity slowed the most, down 14%, while refinance applications dipped slightly — though refinances are still more than double what they were this time last year.
The Mortgage Bankers Association noted that winter storms likely played a role in slowing buyer activity across many areas.
What this shows locally is that the market is still active, but sensitive to rates and weather — some weeks are busier than others.
